NEW YEAR'S EVE DAY

The day started with a little fog but that cleared out quickly and we enjoyed sunshine and warm temperatures throughout the day. We also got to hear lots of gun shots from duck hunters off in the distance. Gus didnt care for that! I took Gus for a good walk and later in the day I took myself for a walk on the beach and along a path to the bay or St George Sound (not sure which it is) as well.  There were a fair number of people on the beach, but no sign of anyone on the bay side.

After enjoying our first helping of pork & sauerkraut, we enjoyed watching Boise State vs Penn State battle it out.

DEC 30 - Sunshine Day!

We woke this morning to blue skies and sunshine, Yeah!!! It was cooler this morning but warmed up to the upper 60s by early afternoon. Jim took Gus for his early walk this morning, so I got to enjoy a leisurely morning with a hot shower at the bath house before it got closed for cleaning. We dont have sewer here so we are being careful to not fill up the tanks before we leave on Friday.

There is a laundromat in Eastpoint so this afternoon we took the bedding Gus threw up on and headed to the laundromat to wash them. The washers there are normal size so it took 2 washers at $3 a load to wash both the blanket and the comforter. We only needed one dryer, costing less than $2 so it wasn't too expensive.  The ride over and back is a pretty one when there is no fog.

Of course after we got home Gus threw up again, this time on the carpet, and all mucus! Thank goodness for Resolve! He is now blocked from the bedroom...don't know what's going on...maybe the water? It hasn't bothered either of us. It is also possible that he is eating something outside on the site. He has been tied out a good bit today.  The mystery remains...for now.

Jim topped of the evening by spilling his Manhattan all over me, Gus's food and the floor. The bourbon fumes even set off the gas detector on the floor.  What a MESS! Gus's food went in the trash and Jim spent a fair amount of time mopping up the floor from his mess. Poor Gus hates it when an alarm goes off, especially when he can't escape through a doggy door.

Dec 29

The day started with rain, lots of rain. Jim was sweet and took Gus out for a walk in the rain. The rains finally ended about noon leaving lots of puddles, but those are finally drying up. The sun came out about 1 pm, right when the Eagles game started. There are still a lot of clouds hanging around but no fog and no rain in the forecast.

So it seems that we have about the same afternoon temperature as Midlothian VA does....at least for one day.

DEC 28 - WE DIDN'T WIN THE LOTTERY!

ONLY 1 # MATCHED AND NO Megaball match either so money down the drain! Good thing it was only $15.

The day started our with fog and clouds but the temp was about 65 most of the day. I was able to do another beach walk and a few Gus walks and started another book sitting out under the awning in my new rocker, thanks to Steven & Jenna.

While I was doing all that Gus threw up on our bed! Lovely!!! The comforter, the blanket and the top sheet all got hit! Thankfully we have other sheets, blankets, and another comforter/quilt. In the days ahead we will have to visit a laundromat to wash the bedding he threw up on. I was able to rinse most of it off but the laundromat should be able to finish the job for us.  He is now relegated to NO extras in his food. Hopefully this was a one "shot" deal...time will tell.

Mid afternoon the sun came out for a few hours before setting. Rain is forecast overnight and through much of tomorrow, then several days of sunshine hopefully!

DEC 27 - Lots of Fog

Today was largely uneventful. We talked with our son this morning after their Christmas trip to the Bahamas. Their photos on Facebook are very colorful...looks like a good time. I especially liked the photo below.

We had a bit of misty rain and lots of fog today, but Gus still got his 4 walks in for the day. Jim and I took a trip into "town" 8 miles down the road to pick up a few items at Piggly Wiggly. It is the smallest grocery store I have ever been in, not counting campground stores.

We also drove back over the bridge to Eastpoint to buy Mega Million lottery tickets...figured we had little to lose....can't win if we don't play!

The fog on the bridge kept us from seeing the beautiful views around us. We will leave that for another day.

By the way the temps here remain in the 60s, day and night. It's nice to get outside in just a light jacket instead of 4 or 5 layers to combat the cold at home.

DEC 26 - St George Island

Today was a rainy day this morning followed by a few afternoon showers. There were plenty of breaks in the rain to get outside, meet some folks and dogs, and for me to take a walk down to the beach and part way down the beach before beating the rain "home". This is a great beach to walk on because it is fairly firm and relatively flat...just a slight slope leading down to the water.  It was a good day to chill out and not drive anywhere! Even Gus thought so.

After dinner, Jim & Gus claimed the bed to read & relax. I will have to kick someone off when I am ready to go to bed. I wonder which one it will be???

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!

We had a much shorted drive today headed west, then south through Talahassee to the Gulf Coast and then west again to St George Island. There were not many cars on the road and only a handful of gas stations and restaurants like Waffle House open.....not that we needed any of that. We have plenty of gas for a while and plenty of food with us. The temperatures continued to climb as we drove, from 50 to about 64 degrees. We are happy about that. The drive along the coast was a pretty one since Rt 98 follows the shoreline much of the way.

We are now settling in at our campsite, site 6. We are close to the bathhouse for showers and within walking distance from the beach, where Gus is not allowed to go. We have plenty of time to explore over the coming days.

2nd Day on the Road - Christmas Eve

Today is another long drive, headed toward Valdosta, our 2nd stop.  We started out down I-95 for the first 200 miles, then cut west along the lower part of Georgia on Rt 82, then Rt 84.

We decided to find a campground instead of dry camping...getting spoiled with having electric & water. Outside of Valdosta there is a Love's Rv Stop with 5 sites. 3 were available when we booked a site this morning. None are now available so we were lucky to get one.

On our way through the Valdosta, GA area we saw lots of gnarled trees, downed trees and lots of blue tarps on rooftops. They suffered a lot of damage from 3 hurricanes over a period of about 14 months.   It will be some time before they fully recover.

We are now settled in at our Loves RV stop...not fancy but not costly either for full hookup. Dinner will be either Bojangles or Godfathers Pizza...havent decided.

We are enjoying the Christmas Eve service online tonight. They just sang "!o how a rose ere blooming" and it is one my favorites. Peace to all, and to all "a good night".

On the Road Again!

We are headed south again, this time to the Panhandle of Florida, then on to Gulf Shores, AL. We are very glad to get away from the cold temperatures we have been dealing with. It will be about 20 degrees warmer where we are headed. Tonight we are stopping in Florence, SC at a Walmart. The price is right...free!

Gus is relaxing, after several days of stressing about being left behind.

Update: we couldn't even get to the Walmart parking lot so plan B was to find a spot in a nearby campground. We were successful in doing so! The benefit is that we could plug in to the electric box. Gus's benefit is that he has lots of places to leave his mark without being relegated to a tiny patch of grass here and there.  Here we are at Swamp Fox Campground just south of Florence.

Lesson learned- don't even think about "camping out" at Walmart 2 days before Christmas!  Tomorrow we will be sure to have a backup plan, although Walmart will close early tomorrow at 6 pm.

Day 6- Headed Home

We had a chilly night last night, waking early to temps in the 40s. Gus's internal clock did not "fall back" so he wanted to go out at 5 am EST. Jim handled it this morning for which I was very thankful! We got everything packed up and loaded up by 9:30 AM and were on the road soon after.  Less than 2 hours later we said fairwell to the Eastern Shore, handed over another $37 to cross the Chesapeake Bay without any delays, even at the Hampton Roads Tunnel.  It's a good day.

Everything seems to still be working on the motorhome, and I am getting the hang of putting the truck in neutral for towing.  It is a bit different from the Jeep procedure so I use a cheat sheet of instructions.  Our next trip is scheduled for late December through early March.
