John Pennekamp State Park

Today was moving day again.  We left Bahia Honda just before 1 pm, headed north on Hwy 1. We first stopped at the Kmart to park the RV for a while while we met up with some of our RV friends at Frank's Restaurant for a late lunch in fine Italian style.  Our waitress, Kris,  was sweet and funny as well as accommodating to us.  This is definitely a great place to enjoy delicious  food at great prices.
After lunch we said goodbye to our friends, drove back to the Kmart to retrieve the RV, then continued north.  Our home for the next 2 nights is John Pennekamp in Key Largo. The sites are a bit narrow and close together, but it has full hookups so it is officially laundry time until it is all done.  We have not done very much laundry in the past 3 weeks so it has piled up.  The forecast for tomorrow is rain, so what better to do than wash clothes and read a good book.

Glass Bottom Boat Trip

What better to do on a rainy day but go out on a glass bottom boat to the coral reefs 45 minutes off shore of John Pennekamp State Park!   The kids loved the boat ride and watching the sea creatures once we reached the reef.  We stayed out over the reef for 45 minutes before heading back to the park.  After arriving back on land, we enjoyed a seafood lunch at Mrs. Mac's Kitchen in Key Large, before heading back to camp.  It's time now for a leisure game of Mexican Train Dominoes.

Making good of a rainy day.

Today was our first full day of rain but we made the best of it.  We drove up to Islamorada with the Andersons to have lunch and visit the Bass Pro Shops next door to the restaurant.  We also stopped at some eclectic shops where the highlight is seeing the giant lobster out front.  The day ended with a taco dinner in the dining tent with parts of the dinner provided by Tom & Linda, Dennis & Sharon, and us.

Sombrero Beach

Yesterday we visited Sombrero beach not far from the shopping area of marathon. It is a beautiful beach with lots of sand and a play area. After, we visited the local Kmart and grocery store for a few items, including some lottery tickets. How could we Not participate when the Power ball is over a billion! We also found a seafood market nearby to get shrimp, tuna , and other fresh fish. We started with 2 lbs of large shrimp , which we then prepared with cheese grits for dinner with Neil & Kat. After dinner Andersons and their friends Tom and Linda joined us to watch the Championship NCAA football game between Clemson and Alabama was a good game and Alabama won 44 to 40, keeping us up until after midnight. .

Moving day

Yesterday we moved to a new site, swapping with friends who arrived to spend time here. They have a much smaller rv and we're happy to swap.  The new site gives us a lot more room, including space for the dining tent (as well as game room tent). Last night we had 3 other couples join us for a little Mexican Train Dominoes....lots of fun.

Dinner at Panama Jacks

Beautiful evening out to eat with Neil & Kat at Panama Jack's just a few miles south of the campground, and out on the water.  We arrived during happy hour and ordered 1/2 lb shrimp for $5.50, and mussels for the same price, plus drinks for discounted price. The bonus was a beautiful sunset and some great music.

Sunny and warm

We are enjoying a beautiful sunny day with a high temperature of 84.  We drove down to Big Pine Key this morning to visit the flea market with Neil & Kat.  Neil treated us to small sugar donuts that melt in your mouth!  The guys then wandered over to the tool area while Kat and I wandered the rest of the grounds. I picked up sand toys for the boys for little money.  I also picked up a light jacket decorated with turtles. Before we left, we bought some fresh vegetables.

On our way back toward Marathon, we stopped at a farmers market and bought delicious strawberries and oranges.  Then we stopped at Bahia Honda at the southern end of the 7 mile bridge and said hello to Don & Ruth Anne on the beach. Finally we stopped and bought some lottery tickets along with a few groceries.  The Powerball is unbelievably high so even though we have a snowballs chance in hell, we have no chance if we don't try.

We may go sit on the beach for a while and enjoy this warmth and sun while it lasts.

First Day in Curry Hammock

We arrived at Curry Hammock about 1:30 pm yesterday and we were almost immediately greated by our RV friends, Don & Ruth Ann, as well as Kat and Lola.  After getting all set up and cleaned up we met them for dinner in Islamorada, at Lorelei, an outdoor restaurant with live music right on the waterfront. It was a very nice way to cap the day.
Overnight we were awakened by the wind, and then early morning by rain. Sadly the forecast is for rain for the next 2 days.  It could be much worse...20 degrees and snowing vs. 70 degrees and rainy.... I think I'll take the latter.
