Overnight stop in Jupiter

We said our goodbyes to the Andersons and drove 400 miles south yesterday to Jonathan Dickinson State Park for one night, site #1.  Neil & Kat have been there for several days.  We met up with them to go to Scooters for dinner. Scooters is a great sports bar with good food and great atmosphere.  The VT game was on but VT was losing badly through half-time, when we left.  VT ACTUALLY WON the game....played great the 2nd half.

Today we are on our way to the Keys where we will spend the next 23 days....200 miles driving today.

DAY AT FORT MCALLISTER

Yesterday we arrived at Fort McAllister, got settled in, and then went to visit with Sharon at their home just a few miles from the park. Dennis is in the hospital recovering from an emergency appendectomy with complications.   He will be in the hospital all week, so we will head over there later today when Sharon let's us know it's OK to visit. Last night we took Sharon out to eat at Fish Tales, just down the road from the campground. Tonight we will probably take her to dinner somewhere else, perhaps near the hospital.

In the meantime, Jim has been busy putting air in a few tires that are a bit low, and doing some other maintenance things with the RV. I took Sadie for a long walk, including to the fishing pier, where it is hard to see much past the end of the pier due to heavy fog.  Not a good day for kayaking unless we want to get lost.

Hurricane Matthew did plenty of damage in the park.  The campground used to be heavily wooded, including between sites but now many of the trees are gone as you can hopefully see in the pictures.  They are still cleaning up in many areas of the park and will be doing that for a while.  Driving down I95 yesterday we also saw lots of downed trees along the side of the highway through South Carolina into Georgia.

Vermont Ted is joining us on this trip.

He's hanging out up front, ready for the sun to come out.

5th Annual Trek to Florida

We are on our way south for the 5th consecutive year. Our first stop was an overnight stay in an empty Walmart parking lot last night , Christmas night. Today we are headed to Savannah to Visit Dennis & Sharon in Richmond Hill, GA . We will stay at Fort McAllister State Park just a few miles from their home, Dennis is in ..the hospital recovering from emergency appendectomy surgery with complications . Sharon says he is grumpy so hopefully that means he is beginning to heal. We'll stick around a few days before continuing south.
