DAY AT FORT MCALLISTER

Yesterday we arrived at Fort McAllister, got settled in, and then went to visit with Sharon at their home just a few miles from the park. Dennis is in the hospital recovering from an emergency appendectomy with complications.   He will be in the hospital all week, so we will head over there later today when Sharon let's us know it's OK to visit. Last night we took Sharon out to eat at Fish Tales, just down the road from the campground. Tonight we will probably take her to dinner somewhere else, perhaps near the hospital.

In the meantime, Jim has been busy putting air in a few tires that are a bit low, and doing some other maintenance things with the RV. I took Sadie for a long walk, including to the fishing pier, where it is hard to see much past the end of the pier due to heavy fog.  Not a good day for kayaking unless we want to get lost.

Hurricane Matthew did plenty of damage in the park.  The campground used to be heavily wooded, including between sites but now many of the trees are gone as you can hopefully see in the pictures.  They are still cleaning up in many areas of the park and will be doing that for a while.  Driving down I95 yesterday we also saw lots of downed trees along the side of the highway through South Carolina into Georgia.
