Anna Maria Island

Yesterday we drove out to Anna Maria Island, where there are lots of vacation homes and rentals, plus some restaurants and shops. Most of the beaches are for the owners and renters. This would be a good place to stay in a house for a few weeks, walking and riding bikes to get around rather than driving.  The waterfront piers have restaurants on them, but folks were also fishing off the edges of the pier. South of Anna Maria is a beach area for the general public, with easy parking right there....Coquina Beach.  We plan to visit that beach when it is not so windy, as it was yesterday. We also drove the length of Long Key, which is filled with golf resorts and yacht clubs. With few bridges off the islands, we took the Ringling Causeway to head back to camp, but not before passing the famous statue of the sailor kissing a young lady.  We are learning to navigate the streets of Sarasota to avoid traffic jams as much as possible and are getting better at it.
