Lake Louisa State Park

We are spending a few days at Lake Louisa State Park, our first visit here. The park is beautiful,  located around several lakes, the largest being Lake Louisa. The campgrounds are located between two smaller lakes, Dixie Lake and Hammond Lake. There are fishing docks at both lakes and kayaks available for rent but the lakes are small and there is nothing to see that can't be seen from the shoreline. Occasionally we have seen alligators swimming across the lake, but mostly they are staying out of sight because of the colder temperatures.   A cold front came in the day we arrived here and it is just now warming up into the 70s during the day. Nights have had temperatures in the 40s. So glad we have electricity and heat!
                     Dixie Lake

Hammond Lake

There are lots of walking trails here...Gus and I walked all the way around Hammond Lake, and today the three of us walked around Dixie Lake to see the cabins across the way.  They are nice cabins: 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, living dining kitchen, with a fireplace and a sofa bed, linens, dishes, pots & pans, and a huge screened porch overlooking the lake. The daily rate is $133, but no pets allowed. Our full hookup campsite is only $27 per night and pets are allowed.

Lake Louisa is at the other side of the park, about 4 miles away from the Campground. It has a small beach, and kayaks can be rented and launched here as well, but on the weekends there are a lot of speed boats on the lake, so it is not so welcoming to kayaking.

We also saw a memorial on the beach to honor a WwII Pilot whose plane crashed in Lake Louisa during a training session in 1944, and was found in 2001 when the lake level was extremely low due to drought conditions.
