This is a great place for walking or riding bikes. I have been able to get in lots of steps each day just walking down the path from the campground to the waterfront/river front. There is a long boardwalk along the river in both directions, one to the headspring, and the other to the St Johns River. The manatee like to hang out in this area because of the consistent water temperature at this time of year, but we are approaching the end of their time in Blue Spring. By the middle of this month they are expected to move out into the main river and beyond as the waters warm with the weather. Yesterday I saw at least 5 manatee in several areas of Blue Spring, including a mother and baby near the "swimming" area which is closed to swimming until the manatee leave. Today we caught another glimpse of the mother and baby further downstream. The waters are also home to plenty of fish including gar, bass, catfish and others. I don't think I have ever seen so many large gar except in an aquarium.
