Moving Day! The day started well. We were up early, packed up, water tank filled, and on our way down the road by 8:30. Our route took us on I70 through the western part of Ohio, into Indiana, past another town called Richmond, around Indianapolis, past fields of wind mills, and then north toward Chicago. All was going well until a pickup truck lost his 4ft square block of Styrofoam in the middle of a 5-lane highway. We didn't see it fall off the truck because we were behind Bill and Pat Knab's 5th wheel trailer. All we saw were sudden brakes too sudden, locked our brakes trying to avoid hitting the Knab's directly in the rear. Jim was able to swerve off to the left but still managed to clip the left rear corner of Knab's trailer with the side mirror. It also caught our large awning and we lost all of the braces on the road. We finally made it over to the side of the highway to check on our damage and the Knab's damage. Their ladder and upper left rear corner of the roof were damaged; our awning was hanging down the side of our RV and the side mirror was smashed on the highway. A truck driver stopped to help clear everything off the road and make sure we were all ok. The pickup driver also helped out and apologized for causing the accident. We hope we can get some money from him to help with repairs, as our insurance company does not want to file another RV claim...it could hurt our rates greatly. After tying up the awning, we continued on our way to Chicago.
We are staying at Bullfrog Lake, a county park with 30 sites. It is very new and very nice. I will get some pictures tomorrow. Our big problem now is trying to locate a side view mirror for the right side in a short amount of time, as it is unsafe to drive without it.
The story began with a 5-week journey in a 1997 RV, from Richmond, Va to Utah and back, July 23 through August 27, 2011. The next step included the sale of that RV and the purchase of a larger, classier RV we call Princess. And so our adventures continue.
