MONDAY AROUND BARDSTOWN

Today we drove into town to the visitor's center for information.

We then visited Heaven Hill's Bourbon Experience. It was a lot different from when we were here 14 years ago. There were no tours available as they were fully booked up, but we were able to walk through the exhibits, watch a 15 minute movie, and visit the gift shop.

Our next stop was supposed to be Barton, but Barton no longer allows visitors, and Preservation Distillery does not do tours and has very expensive tastings...charging by the ounce. We all shared a single shot of an interesting bourbon for $20 and had a nice chat with the ladies behind the counter. Who could afford more? There wasn't a single bottle that cost under $150, and most were priced in the $300 and over range....out of our league.

Lesson learned in all of this: most of the distilleries require reservations, costing anywhere from $16 to $45 for a tour and tasting, and you can't get a tasting without the tour.

We finally gave up and went back to regroup, play some games, enjoy some drinks and grill steaks for dinner. The evening ended sitting in front of a fire and looking up at the stars, and writing today's blog post.

Tomorrow promises better luck for our adventures.
