January 13

Yesterday, January 12, was our last full day at Hanna Park. It also meant my last chance to walk on the beach for several weeks. Gus and I took a nice walk down to the beach and then on the beach where he proceeded to chase things being blown about by the wind. There were very few people on the beach because it was windy and only in the 60s, but we had fun. I even got Gus to run in a circle for several minutes.  When we got back to our site he took a long nap.

The beach has an interesting history I was not aware of until we exited the beach a parking lot down from where we entered. It once was a beach for Negroes as dark skinned people were called back at the beginning of the 20th century. Henry Flagler established it and it was apparently a resort. Little evidence of that remains now that it is part of Hanna Park, owned and run by the city of Jacksonville.

Dinner was shrimp from the seafood market and grits with cheese. It was good, but not my best cooking of grits. Maybe it was because they were quick grits rather than the regular grits.?? The shrimp was very good!
After cleaning up from dinner, I had to prep for tutoring online. Before we left home I had been tutoring a High School Junior at home, and we have continued meeting online using Zoom. It seems to be working OK, and her parents pay me through an online app. This week we met twice in the evenings. Hopefully her quiz today will go well for her.
