Monument Valley Drive

This beautiful day we all took a drive to the Navajo Tribal Park Visitor Center and Museum. From the Visitors Center we could see many of the "monuments" in the valley, without having to take a rough 17 mile drive on unpaved, fitted roads. The museum was very informative, included stories about the history and government of the Navajo Nation and it's people. It was especially interesting to read about the Indians used as code makers & breakers during WWII.  After leaving the park, we drove north on Route 163 toward Mexican Hat and Valley of the Gods where we continued to see incredible buttes and mesas.  We stopped short when we got to a gravel road climbing up a mesa with lots of warning signs regarding road conditions.  The views may be fantastic on top of the mesa, but the toll on the jeep was not worth the risk, especially since we would have to come back down the same road.
