Many movies or scenes from movies have been filmed in the Monument Valley. Several John Wayne movies including Stagecoach and She Wore a Yellow Ribbon were filmed here, using many local Navajo Indians as extras. Scenes from Wild Wild West and Thelma and Louise were filmed there. Forest Gump stopped running just north of there on the road to Mexican Hat. There is a small museum at the Gouldings Resort with memorabilia from these movies, and a few buildings used in filming the John Wayne movies.
