Every day starts with one of us taking Gus for a walk...usually about a mile worth of walking, sometimes more, and less if it is raining. Yesterday he was feeling poorly and not eating, weven biscuits or Pupperoni sticks. I fixed chicken and rice for him and got him to eat that, then he slept most of the day. He only went out when we made him. This morning he seemed much better and he has been for 2 long walks. He even played with Lucy for about 15 minutes. Lucy is a Lab mix, bigger than Gus, who Gus met about 3 years ago at Fort Pickens, on Gulf Island National Seashore when Gus was just a puppy. We have stayed in touch with Lucy's owners (Leeland & Bambi) and met up with them here at Topsail, where they are Volunteers.
Today Jim and I took a bike ride out to Campbell Lake, which is larger than I expected. The ride was 3 miles out, so with additional exploration of the park, our ride was about 8 miles total. That plus at least 3 miles of walking is good for one day. We may not be so lucky tomorrow as they are calling for rain again.
