Yesterday we left St George Island, and followed Rt 98 mostly along the Gulf Coast. We traveled through Port St Joe, Mexico Beach, and Panama City toward Destin, seeing many remnants of the damage left by Hurricane Michael in 2018. There are still many homes in disrepair and there is also a lot of construction where they are restoring or rebuilding. In some places we were only a few feet from the Gulf waters. The 120 mile drive took us about 3 hours but it was well worth the drive. We also gained an hour on the drive as this part of the Panhandle is on Central Time. Our destination for the week was Topsail Hill Preserve State Park in Santa Rosa Beach, just east of Miramar Beach and Destin. We are in site 118 until next Monday, when we move on again.
