Today's adventure included an exploration of Palo Duro Canyon State Park, located about 25 miles south of Amarillo. Although we didn't do any hiking there we did see some beautiful scenery. Our drive into the park took us down into the base of the canyon and then back up out of the canyon. It is especially amazing because the land outside of the canyon is quite flat, level with the top of the canyon.
From there we drove back toward Amarillo and headed west a short distance to visit the Cadillac Ranch, where 10 Cadillac cars were buried in the dirt standing on end in the 1970s and have gone through many transitions through the years. All of the cars have been stripped of just about everything so they are now shells of their former Cadillac selves. They are very colorful, covered with more than an inch of paint over every inch. Even the roadway in front of the site is painted with graffiti. We also stopped just up the road from there where 3 Cadillac are on display, NOT buried!
After a late lunch, the guys went to a museum while the ladies got laundry done and relaxed reading. Our dinner was "home cooked" fajitas using leftover steak from the Big Texan dinner last night. Now it's time to relax for the evening as tomorrow is another very busy day.
