We decided to venture into Halifax today, about 30 minutes from the RV park. We planned to visit the Citadel for 1 to 2 hours and then go to the waterfront for an hour or two. We did get to the Citadel and spent almost 3 hours there, including a 1-hour guided tour. The workers are all in period costumes, some as Scottish soldiers from the Makenzie Clan, some as British officers, some as musicians playing drums and bagpipes, and some as wives of officers in period dress from the 1800s. The Citadel as it stands today was completed in the mid 1800s and is the 4th Citadel on this spot. The structure is in the shape of a star as one sees it from above. It was last used officially by Canada's military for WW1 and WW2 as a prepping place to send troops to England to help in the fighting.

From the top of the walls, We had a good view of the city below. There is a lot of construction going on in the form of repairs to the Citadel, but also in putting up new buildings in the downtown area as well as the outskirts of town.
When we left the Citadel we headed to the waterfront area, hoping to be able to walk around a bit. The waterfront was so crowded, and the parking lots were full so all we could do was drive down the main thoroughfare next to the waterfront and past the Farmers market and a Museum. There is a Jazz Festival going on all week that has several blocks marked off and accessible only to ticket holders. We both feel that visiting some of the smaller towns on the waterfront is much more enjoyable.
