After a fuel stop to fill the RV rank we again headed west on I-40 looking for Route 66 landmarks and enjoying the changing scenery as we drove through Navaho country.
We got off the highway at Grants to check out a drive through attraction that our RV couldn't drive through. Fun photo opportunity!
We crossed the Continental divide at an elevation of over 7000 ft about 10:30 am MDT.
Next stop...Gallup, NM for brunch since we missed breakfast. We ate at Route 66 Diner, everything Coke.
Next stop...Arizona. Lupton sits just over the border in Arizona and several trading posts are along Route 66 just over the border. We stopped at Chief Yellowstone III Trading Post, where the state line is marked on the floor of the store and also outside up against the cliffs. The two cats there followed Mike around everywhere, and he's not a fan of cats. Outside there were several horses gathered around. One walked right up to me and let me pet him....so sweet!
Holbrook was our next stop to check out the Wigwam Hotel where Mike stayed when he was a kid. We got a peek at one of the wigwams being cleaned...2 beds and a bathroom...looked very clean. Lived the various old cars sitting in front of the tepees.
Then it was on to Winslow Arizona to "Standing on the Corner".
