Fredericksburg, Texas is a small but thriving town with several museums, plenty of pubs, German restaurants, wineries, and shops. The forecast was for scattered showers so we took rain jackets and umbrellas with us. Thankfully the rain held off most of the day. We wandered through the outdoor portion of a WWII museum honoring Fleet Admiral Chester Nimitz and others from Texas who were involved in the Pacific during WWII.
We continued to wander through town where old and new buildings sit side by side.
When it was time for lunch we stopped in at the Fredericksburg Brewing Company for schnitzel, potato salad, red cabbage, Brats, and beer (or wine in my case) the food was excellent and the ambiance was GERMAN.
After filling our stomachs, we wandered the streets again, or sat on saddle seats as you can see below!
The old architecture is being restored where possible including this building with a unique roofline.
The Luchenbach store in Fredericksburg was a favorite for all. Jim got into a long conversation with one of the shop owners and we had to practically drag him away. She did recommend that we stop in Luchenbach to check out the tiny village on our way back to camp.
This is Luchenbach Texas....there is a song written sung by Waylon Jennings in 1977 called "Luchenbach Texas (Back to the Basics of Love)"
On the weekends I am sure this place is jumping. They have musicians, dancing, gift shops, and food and drink then. We were there on a Monday and still got to enjoy some live music and drinks.
