Canyon Lake is northwest of San Antonio and has a military campground that lies outside Fort Sam Houston military base. That means easier access in and out for us. That is where we headed today to stay for 3 nights. It is clean and we have full hookup, all for $30 per night. Our drive here led us through Fredericksburg, TX where a lot was going on, and Johnson City, home of President Johnson. There are a lot of wineries and several breweries scattered throughout this region as well. The terrain is certainly more colorful.
This evening we went to the Tejas Rodeo; we even had reserved seats thanks to Mike. This rodeo was much more professional than the last one we went to. The folks attending were much better...no rednecks! The competitors were also much better. We still saw the young kids ages 4-6 trying to stay on a sheep for more than two seconds. A 4 year old won that competition, staying on for at least 8 seconds. We saw bull riding, barrel racing, calf roping, and steer wrangling. Afterwards a band played some good country music that we listened to for a while before heading back to camp 35 miles away.
