Today's adventure was to visit Joshua Tree National Park to the north of us. We drove west and north to the West entrance and followed a self guided drive using an app I acquired for $15. It was well worth the $, giving us lots of insight, history, and tales of the history of the people who lived here and explored here over time. The Joshua Tree is a type of Yukka tree that is abundantly grown in the region. Just as interesting as the tree itself is, the rock formations are just as interesting. Some of them look like just a pile of rocks dumped in a heap, yet they were created by natural events including earthquakes, wind and water. Several places in the park provided incredible views across the valley and up the other side of the valley where Mount San Jacinto stands. The temperature in the park ranged from 75° to about 85°, a wonderful change from the heat in the valley. It was also a windy day but that seemed to be the case everywhere we went today.
Down in the valley the wind created dust clouds...instead of smog or smoke, the cloudy conditions are caused by dust in the air.
