Tombstone is a city in the southeast region of Arizona. It was "discovered" in the 1870s by a man named Ed Schieffelin who discovered silver in the area, thus leading the way for a town to be built nearby.
In its heyday it boasted over 110 saloons and many gambling halls along a stretch of road about 8 blocks long. Through the years it suffered from many fires destroying sections of the town, but was rebuilt quickly until silver mining was no longer feasible in the area. Today it is a tourist attraction that shares the history of the town and the region through re-enactments and dioramas. Several restaurants/bars have original bar tops, photos, and other memorabilia of a time long gone. Many are dressed in period costumes from that Era. The main road through town is a dusty dirt road that stretches for about 4 or 5 blocks. This is where Wyatt Earp and his brothers resided and made a name for themselves along with Doc Holiday and a group of cowboys who got themselves killed in a shootout with the lawmen.
We enjoyed watching the reenactments, walking the street and seeing actors in period costume, as well as having a drink in one Saloon and lunch in another.
It was a full day at Tombstone but a fun one even though it was a bit dusty. Tomorrow we move on again.
